PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE (TEMPO PASSADO CONTÍNUO)

O PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE descreve uma ação que estava acontecendo no passado, quando uma outra ação passada acontece paralelamente e interrompe a que estava sendo realizada.

EXEMPLO:I was dreaming when you came in.Eu estava sonhando quando você entrou.

O PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE descreve também ações que estavam ocorrendo simultaneamente.

EXEMPLO:While she was dancing, he was playing the guitar.Enquanto ela estava dançando, ele estava tocando violão.

NOTA As conjunções WHEN e WHILE são uma constante no uso do PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE, indicando quebra e simultaneidade das ações. Forma-se com o passado do auxiliar “to be”: WAS / WERE e pelo verbo principal com a terminação ING.

Observe como se forma o PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:FORMA AFIRMATIVA I was working. Eu estava trabalhando. You were working. Você estava trabalhando. He was working. Ele estava trabalhando. She was working.

Ela estava trabalhando. We were working. Nós estávamos trabalhando. You were working. Vocês estavam trabalhando They were working. Eles estavam trabalhando.

FORMA NEGATIVA I was not working.Eu não estava trabalhando.You were not working.Você não estava trabalhando.He was not working.Ele não estava trabalhando.She was not working.Ela não estava trabalhando.We were not working.Nós não estávamos trabalhando.You were not working.Vocês não estavam trabalhando.They were not working.Eles não estavam trabalhando.

FORMA INTERROGATIVA Was I working?Eu estava trabalhado?Were you working?Você estava trabalhando?Was he working?Ele estava trabalhando?Was she working?Ela estava trabalhando?Were we working?Nós estávamos trabalhando?Were you working?Vocês estavam trabalhando?Were they working?Eles estavam trabalhando?
